Winter Checks

Things seemed to be going quite well weather wise after I got the shrink wrap done. I was away inJapan on business at the beginning of December – the week we got over 4 ft of snow in London in 3 days. I checked the weather forecasts and for Sarnia while in Tokyo and saw that they seemed to be missing virtually all of the snow – but it was hitting London with vengeance.

This was taken in the middle of the 4 ft dumping that I missed in Japan -something I was reminded of several times :-). Nat and the kids were shoveling 3 - 4 times a though this one. This is Will using the snow blower from Terrie next door.

Dec 18th

We got hit again around Dec 12 – 14 with wicked winds ice and snow. This is the little storm that stranded hundreds on highway 402 and eventually lead to the military airlifting stranded motorists off the highway and for 24+ hours stuck in their cars. Once again it was an “oh crap” – I doubt the boat cover is going to do well with this.

These are a couple of pictures from the local paper of the storm and the amount of snow that it dumped on Sarnia area.

Natalie, William and I traveled to Sarnia to check the boat on the 18th. The road was clear by tis time but there were still several vehicles in the ditch and centre medium and a few transport trucks on their side. Low and behold, when we got to Bridgeview there was maybe 8 inches of snow at the marina and the boat cover was almost clear of snow. Amazingly while the east part of Sarnia was getting the worst storm in years, the western end was getting very little in the way of snow.

We dodged another bullet. I had hoped that if the cover was still intact that I could get on the boat and plug in to throw a quick charge into the batteries. However, the marina had all the power off. A quick inquiry to the office established that getting power would require scheduling with the office – something to do with insurance regulations. Well, I figured we could at least climb aboard and check all was well under the cover. However, all the ice they and wind they received had frozen the door zipper well and good. No problem – I had a heat gun in my bag-o-tricks. Ah…..back full circle to the lack of electricity. Fine……we will head home. At least the cover was OK.
